The cops in Largo, Florida, are investigating the murder of Abrielle Baldwin, who they suspect was shot dead by her younger brother Damarcus Coley on Christmas Eve. Damarcus was then injured when he was shot in retaliation by Abrielle’s other brother, Darcus Coley.
This horrific incident all stemmed from an argument about Christmas presents, which led to the killing of 23-year-old Abrielle Baldwin, a mother of two young children. Meanwhile, 14-year-old Damarcus and 15-year-old Darcus are in custody facing serious charges.
The circumstances were described in great detail by Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri in a press conference on Tuesday evening.
According to Gualtieri, the problem began on December 24, when the brothers were shopping with other family members and started arguing in the store about who was getting which presents. One of the brothers seems to have been under the impression that the other was getting more gifts.
The family went to their grandmother’s home, where the argument continued. At one point, Damarcus pulled out a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun and aimed it at his 15-year-old brother. An uncle separated the pair, sending Damarcus to the front yard.
Abrielle followed Damarcus outside, where she demonstrated with him for starting trouble and pleaded with him to stop. The 14-year-old responded by threatening to kill her and the 11-month-old baby she was holding. He then allegedly shot her in the chest.

The 15-year-old Darcus then came outside and reportedly fired his .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun at his younger brother, hitting him once in the stomach. Before he was shot, Damarcus had dropped his weapon.

Abrielle was transported to a nearby hospital, but she suffered internal bleeding and was struggling to breathe. She was pronounced dead a short time later. Her baby was unharmed in the incident.
Damarcus Coley charged with killing his sister Abrielle Baldwin
Damarcus was also hospitalized and has undergone surgery. He is expected to recover and will eventually be transported to a juvenile detention center. He has been charged with first-degree murder, child abuse, and being a minor in possession of a firearm.
Darcus was arrested at a relative’s home. At the time, he made some comments about self-harm, so he was transported to a mental health facility. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.
Sheriff Galtieri expressed his exasperation with the incident throughout the press conference. He said, “This is what happens when you’ve got young delinquents and they carry guns. They get upset; they don’t know how to handle stuff, so they just pick up their guns and start shooting each other.”
The Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney’s Office is examining the case and will decide whether or not the two brothers should be charged as adults due to the severity of their charges.
