American Detective With Lt. Joe Kenda is investigating the murder of teenager Andrew Jacob Derenzy who was kidnapped and killed by six men near Hope Mills, North Carolina, in 2016. Ultimately it was Devon Hall who was convicted of killing the young man.

On May 27, 2016, Andrew Derenzy was just 16-years-old when he was forced from the home of a friend and taken to an empty dirt lot in Hope Mills, to the south of Fayetteville, NC. He was bound up and shot to death by Devon Hall.

Derenzy had been living with his sister and her husband at the time, and they became concerned when he had failed to come home after work. The previous day he had told his brother-in-law that he was having car trouble but would ask his friends for help.

On the morning when his family realized he was missing, Derenzy’s sister noticed that $120 had been withdrawn from a family account. At the time, she had thought it highly unusual that her brother would take the cash without asking.

On the morning of May 28, the police found Derenzy’s remains; he had been beaten up and shot at least twice. The cops also stated that he had been robbed of $120.

Six men were arrested in Andrew Derenzy case

The police investigation then uncovered a conspiracy among friends that led to the arrest of six young men over the following couple of weeks. Initially, Devon Hall and Rashad Revels were arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The police also picked up Daniel Hall, Devon’s brother, and charged him with accessory to murder; he was supposed to have been a close friend of Derenzy’s.

Further arrests included Ian Robinson, who was also charged with murder, and brothers, Darius and Daante Walker, who were charged with accessory to murder.

The exact motive for the murder remains unclear, but the cops have said that narcotics certainly played a part, and there have been rumors that the men may have been involved in gangland activity and that Derenzy may have disrespected gang members.

Ultimately it was concluded that Devon Hall had been the one who pulled the trigger and killed Derenzy. He was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Revels was convicted of kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon and was sentenced to 14 years in total. Daniel Hall, Robinson, and the Walker brothers were all sentenced to several years on kidnapping convictions.

I appreciate you included all 6 involved, and not just 5. However, I can see your information did partially come from articles that first came out that was some random comment from people who didn’t know Andrew, and tried to justify what those kids did to my brother. No one is ever perfect, but the drug aspect and disrespecting a gang member has been put in a context that it really shouldn’t be in by the person who said it. Thanks again for including everyone, and not just some of them.

The prosecution of this case is off-it’s weird, And it stinks. Why were the 3-4 other kids who were involved in this heinous crime not charged with first or second degree murder, robbery, kidnapping? Is it because the Devon’s (the two killer brothers) were the children of a bonds person, a woman who worked with ,kcal and state law enforcement officers? is that why one of her sons Daniel only received 3 years??? And the same with the other 2-3–present I t he car and at time of his murder?? This case smells. And it’s North Carolina, where the law officers often stick together: Protect “their own”.
This is an injustice and the Justice system should look into why these killers were given such feeble sentences. there was no Justice for this kid.

Oh, and it seems that some were given harsher sentences—longer sentences than what was quoted in the American Detective Tv show I just saw, but even 14 years is far too lenient. What ever happened to the fact that if you are there, know what is happening, discuss killing an individual-as those 4 defendants who put Andrew in the trunk did—then they should all get the same sentence…what is this thing about Devon pulling the trigger???—they all planned his death when they drove to his house and forced him into the car, taking him to an ATM to rob him???

Self-edit as not possible to edit in review; I meant to ask, was it because the Devon’s mother was a bonds person…did Fayetteville treat that second son, and the other boys differently because of her involvement with law enforcement?

I don’t like the fact that this article has kept the erroneous speculations about drugs and gang involvement. This whole thing happened because Devon and Daniel were narcissistic thugs who believed that they were owed money for past bills and were going to get that money by any means necessary. I would suspect that by both siblings being involved their upbringing had a lot to do with their actions. The sentences were not fair in only Daniel’s case as he and his brother plotted together and neither should have been allowed anything less than the death penalty.
