The authorities in Texas County, Oklahoma, are holding four suspects on suspicion of killing Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley on a desolate road in the Oklahoma panhandle last month.

The four suspects arrested over the weekend are partners Tad Bert Cullum, 43; Tifany Machel Adams, 54; and married couple Cole Earl Twombly, 50; and Cora Twombly, 44.

They are members of a so-called anti-government group based in rural Oklahoma called God’s Misfits; however, according to the police, the killings are thought to be the result of a “problematic custody battle.”

Two Kansas-based women, 27-year-old Veronica Butler and 39-year-old Jilian Kelley have been missing since March 30, when they drove to Oklahoma to partake in a custody exchange with Butler’s two children. Their vehicle was later found abandoned near the Oklahoma-Kansas border.

The police found a large quantity of blood on the road and at the edge of the road. They also recovered Butler’s glasses and a pistol magazine from the scene, but there was no sign of the women.

Bulter was in a protracted custody battle with Tiffany Adam’s son, Wrangler Rickman. Rickman currently had custody of the children, and Butler was allowed to see them on Saturdays. Kelley, the wife of a pastor, was a court-appointed supervisor for Butler’s visitations.

Rickman had reportedly claimed his mom, Adams, and her boyfriend, Cullum, had made death threats against Butler.

On the day Butler and Kelley died, Rickman was in a rehabilitation facility in Oklahoma. Adams reportedly told the police that Butler had called to cancel the visitation. She also said she left the children with friends.

According to an Affidavit released yesterday, an unnamed teen, reportedly the daughter of Cole and Cora Twombly, overheard her parents talking about the murder. The teen allegedly claimed that the Twombly couple blocked the road in front of Butler and Kelley, diverting them to where Adams and Cullum were waiting for them.

The teen allegedly asked why Kelley was killed and was told that she wasn’t innocent and had supported Butler.

The God’s Misfits are thought to be a religious anti-government group that met once a week at the Twombly residence.

The police have accused Adams of purchasing five stun guns and three pre-paid cellular phones in the days leading up to Butler and Kelley’s murders. Adams is also accused of doing online searches for “taser pain level, gun shops, pre-paid cellular phones, and how to get someone out of their house.”

The defendants are expected to make their first court appearances on Wednesday morning.

Two bodies were found on Sunday in rural Texas. The bodies have not been identified, but they are thought to be connected to this investigation, and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Texas County Sheriff’s Department stated that the bodies were transported to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner for analysis.
