ID is re-airing the Homicide Hunter: American Detective investigation into the murders of Eva Jones and her daughter Tiffany Cartwright, who were brutally killed by their in-law, Jeffrey Harmon.

In April 2017, 60-year-old Jones and 35-year-old Cartwright traveled from their home in Wilmington, North Carolina, to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

They were going to Harmon’s home to pick up items for Jones’s other daughter, Sara Harmon, who had been married to Harmon.

The marriage had soured, and Sara Harmon had moved away to Ohio, leaving her mom and sister to pick up her stuff.

Unfortunately, Jones and Cartwright were never seen alive again. They were reported missing a few days later on Sunday, April 3, after Jones didn’t appear at church and Jones failed to turn up to work.

The cops knew the pair had made it to Myrtle Beach because their cellphones pinged a tower in the town.

On the same evening Jones and Cartwright were reported missing, firefighters were called to a barn fire in rural Columbus County, NC. The charred and dismembered remains of Jones and Cartwright were discovered amongst the smoldering rubble.

The following day, Horry County police responded to an address south of Myrtle Beach to discover 42-year-old Harmon was dead from a self-inflicted wound.

A week later, on April 11, Jones’s car was recovered in Wilmington, NC, just a few miles from where Jones and Cartwright shared an apartment. Neighbors said the vehicle had been there since April 2.

A search of the victims’ home revealed reddish stains on the carpet and on a table leg. The apartment appeared to have been freshly cleaned and was still wet.

Jeffrey Harmon declared the killer of Eva Jones and Tiffany Cartwright

The investigators, which included law enforcement agencies across North and South Carolina, concluded that Jeffrey Harmon murdered his in-laws and then took his own life. They concluded that no one else was involved with the murders, so there were no prosecutions.

The Wilmington community hosted a memorial service in honor of the two women who were described as very “kindhearted and gracious” in a ceremony that celebrated the lives of two hugely popular women.

Cartwright was the beloved custodian at the Holly Tree Elementary School in Wilmington.

This episode of Homicide Hunter: American Detective airs Wednesday at 8/7c on Investigation Discovery.
