Crime Junkie is investigating the suspicious death of Robin Pope, who disappeared while collecting belongings from her estranged husband’s home on Kent Island in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland.

The 51-year-old Robin was married to Wayne Pope, but their marriage began falling apart in 2012, and they began living separately. On March 1, 2013, Robin contacted her former husband to say she would pick up some items from the house they once shared on the shoreline of Chesapeake Bay.

Wayne would later tell the police that he spoke briefly with his wife outside the home but then left the area because his lawyer had advised him not to spend time alone with Robin.

He returned later that night to find Robin’s car was still parked in front of the house, but there was no sign of her or her beloved Great Dane, Bella. Robin’s keys, purse, credit cards, and cash were still in her vehicle.

Wayne first contacted Robin’s closest friends before reporting her missing to the cops. About 24 hours later, Robin’s dog was found washed up on the rocks of a neighbor’s pier. The dog didn’t appear to have any external injuries, and a cause of death was not determined.

On March 23, 2013, a fisherman located less than a mile down the shore from the Pope home spotted a body floating in the water. The body was soon identified as Robin, but unfortunately, the remains had decomposed too badly to determine a cause of death. She did not appear to have any external wounds.

The cops have been unable to solve the mystery and do not know if Robin died from an accidental drowning, a suicide, or a murder. The investigators have not given up on the case and are continually urging any witnesses to come forward.

In a statement in 2016, Queen Anne’s Sheriff’s Office said they are treating Robin’s death as “suspicious and have not ruled anything out as a possibility, or ruled anyone out as a suspect.”

On the 11th anniversary of Robin’s death in March 2024, the police made a fresh appeal for information. Sheriff Gary Hofmann told the press, “Every piece of information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, plays a crucial role in unraveling the truth. We implore anyone with information to step forward; your contribution could be the key to bringing closure to this case.”

If anyone has any information about what happened to Robin Pope, they are asked to please contact the Maryland State Police at 410-822-3101 or the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office at 410-758-6666.

The strange death of Robin Pope has been examined closely by the media nationwide, including in a Breaking Homicide documentary aired on ID five years ago.
