People Magazine Presents on ID is examining the disturbing murder of Troy LaFerrara by twisted killers Miranda and Elytte Barbour, who butchered LaFerrara in their car after luring him to them through a Craigslist advert.
Miranda and Elytte Barbour were a young couple; Miranda was just 18 years old, and Elytte was 22; they had recently married and given birth to a baby girl.
The couple were living in Selinsgrove in central Pennsylvania when they decided to commit murder.
The Barbours put an advert on Craigslist offering female companionship. Elytte later told the cops, “We just decided that we were going to kill somebody. We had no reason other than that.”
The 42-year-old LeFerrara met Miranda at her car in the parking lot of Susquehanna Valley Mall. He had arranged to pay for sex with Miranda, but unknown to him, Elytte was hiding under a blanket in the back seat.
Miranda drove the car to Sunbury, PA, before she suddenly asked, “Did you see the stars tonight?” This was the code phrase for her husband to jump out and strangle LeFerrara with a cord. The victim fought back, which led to Miranda stabbing him 20 times with a knife. The twisted couple dumped the body in an alleyway.
In custody, Miranda said she had attempted to kill two other men the same way, but they failed to turn up.

Miranda subsequently went on to make some wild claims, including that she had killed more than 22 people. The teenager said she was a Satanist and had murdered people in her home state of Alaska and in Texas, Florida, and North Carolina.
The teenage killer said she was willing to show the FBI where to find the bodies. She also claimed she acted like the fictional serial killer Dexter by only killing bad people, such as child abusers and those who owed money. She called her alter ego “Super Miranda.”
Miranda had grown up in the small town of North Pole, Alaska, which was subsequently subjected to a media storm as allegations of Satanism rocked the tiny community.
However, law enforcement says there is no evidence Miranda or Elytte killed anyone other than Troy LeFerrara.
Miranda and Elytte Barbour sentenced to life without parole
In August 2014, the Barbour couple officially pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. A month later, they were sentenced to life without parole.
At the sentencing, Northumberland County Judge Charles Saylor said, “Justice is being served with your permanent removal from our community and society.”
Elytte addressed the court, apologizing for the crime, and added, “It is not the person who I am. It’s not the person I want to be.” Miranda refused to speak.
This case was previously examined in 2018 by ID on Bride Killa.
