ID is re-airing the See No Evil investigation into the murder of Tennessee State Trooper Calvin Jenks by Alejandro Guana during a routine traffic stop about 40 miles north of Memphis in Tipton County, TN.
The killer, 17-year-old Guana, and his lifelong friend, 19-year-old Orlando Garcia, were from Austin, Texas, and had taken a road trip to Tennessee to sell about 2/3 Lbs worth of marijuana. They hired a car and acquired a couple of firearms for their journey.
In January 2007, the pair spent a few days driving between Memphis and Nashville, where they tried to sell their narcotics at shopping malls and various other locations. The two drug pushers didn’t have many contacts in Tennessee, but they did meet up with Henry King and Shamus Pringle at an auto shop near Memphis.
Guana and Garcia were driving back toward Nashville when 24-year-old State Trooper Calvin Jenks stopped them for speeding in Tipton County. Jenks noticed the smell of marijuana in the car.
Jenks ordered the driver, Garcia, out of the car and took him to the rear of the vehicle. Garcia told him there was marijuana in the central console.
Jenks returned to the vehicle and leaned in, asking Guana where the drugs were located. Guana responded by shooting him twice in the head with a .25 caliber handgun.
The whole incident was recorded on Jenks’s video camera.

Garcia then pulled Jenks out of the vehicle, and they drove off. They abandoned the car at an apartment complex in Brownsville, TN, and called Pringle and King for help.
Pringle and King picked up the killers and agreed to drive them to a motel in Nashville. Pringle and King were later arrested for a traffic violation as they drove home.
In the meantime, a group of hunters spotted the flashing lights of Jenks’s unmanned patrol car and found his body lying on the side of the road.
Alejandro Guana and Orlando Garcia jailed for Calvin Jenks murder
The cops who arrested Pringle and King learned that they might have information about their murdered colleague. Pringle and King gave the police the address of Guana and Garcia’s motel. A Nashville PD SWAT team apprehended them later that night.
Alejandro Guana was convicted of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
Prosecutor Neal Oldham chose to speak about Trooper Jenks in his closing arguments. He said, “[Jenks] was a real person. He was 24 years old. His name was Calvin. He was a brother, a son, and though he only had the title for a little bit, he was a husband.”
Orlando Garcia was sentenced to 19 years for his role in the murder. He was released in 2020.
