Dateline: Secrets Uncovered on Oxygen is re-examining the murder of Michele Neurauter, who was strangled to death by her ex-husband Lloyd Neurater at her home in Corning, upstate New York.
Lloyd was aided in the murder by the couple’s daughter, then 19-year-old Karrie Neurater, and much of the case centered around concluding if Karrie was a willing participant in the killing or if her father brainwashed her.
On August 28, 2017, Karrie drove her father to the home of 46-year-old Michele, where he strangled his former wife. Karrie had disconnected various electronic devices to hide her father’s presence, and she played with her youngest sibling to distract them from the murder.
After the killing, Lloyd and Karrie made the scene look like a suicide. The pair then contacted the police and told them a rehearsed story about Michele committing suicide.
Lloyd and Michele had three children together, including Karrie. The youngest lived with Michele, but Lloyd resented paying child support and allegedly wanted full custody, so he hatched a plan to murder his ex-wife.
The killer persuaded Karrie to assist him by manipulating her. Lloyd said he would kill himself if Karrie didn’t help him. The teenager felt forced to choose between the life of her mother or father.
Lloyd Neurater confessed to killing Michele Neurater
In 2018, Lloyd pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. He insisted that he had planned the whole murder and had forced his daughter to help. He subsequently showed remorse and apparently “found God.”

Karrie pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was facing 10 to 15 years behind bars. However, it was agreed that Karrie had diminished responsibility, so she was given a reduced sentence of 1 to 3 years. She was paroled in February 2020.
Karrie Neurater brainwashed by Lloyd Neurater to help kill her mom, Michele Neurater
Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker said he believed Karrie was brainwashed and had been suffering from parental alienation syndrome when one parent convinces a child to turn against the other parent.
Michele’s mother, Jeanne Laundy, does not blame her granddaughter and wrote a letter to the judge before Karrie’s sentencing. Laundy wrote, “I do not believe my daughter, Michele, would want a long prison sentence for her daughter. She would want her to eventually lead a happy life.”

This is very poorly edited. There are many grammar problems; mixing up pronouns, etc. That leads to unnecessary confusion.
