See No Evil is examining the murder of Kelly Stough, who was gunned down by church pastor Albert Weathers in Detroit, Michigan.

At about 6 a.m. on December 7, 2018, the body of 36-year-old Stough was found lying in the road in an area known to be used by sex workers. Stough, a transgender woman, had been fatally shot.

Her killer, Weathers, was a church minister and a security guard with the Great Lakes Water Authority. After shooting Stough, he went to his job downtown before phoning the police about an hour later, reporting the incident as a robbery.

Weathers claimed Stough had forced her way into his car and demanded he hand over his money while brandishing a sharp object. He initially said he grabbed his .40-caliber Glock because he was just protecting himself.

The cops remained suspicious of his story, and their concerns only deepened when inconsistencies began to creep into Weathers’ version of events. He later claimed that he had accidentally shot Stough.

The killer also made comments directed against the transgender community that made the cops wonder if they were dealing with a hate crime.

Albert Weathers accused of aggressive behavior in trial for Kelly Stough murder

Witnesses, including local sex worker Kyra Butts, came forward claiming that Weathers was a regular patron of transgender sex workers. Butts said Weathers had a bad reputation among the sex workers and was known for his arguments over money and for being aggressive and intimidating.

At Weathers’ trial, the prosecution argued that Stough had done nothing wrong and the killer was the sole aggressor. He eventually agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder and felony firearm.

Weathers was sentenced to eight years for the murder and two years for the firearms charge. He is currently incarcerated at the St Louis Correctional Facility in St Louis, MI.

Murder victim Kelly Stough remembered as Albert Weathers was convicted

After the sentencing, Stough’s mother, Jessica Williams, spoke to reporters. She said, “I was glad — I just wanted to hear him admit it. “Did you say a prayer with her before you left her out in the street like trash? Did you at least hold her hand and tell her you’re sorry.”

In a statement, prosecutor Kym Worthy said, “The transgender community is among the most marginalized communities in this country…. Albert Weathers pled guilty this morning to the murder of Kelly Stough. She will not be forgotten. She mattered. We will continue to aggressively prosecute those who bring harm to this and other Wayne County communities.”

Stough was born Tristan Stough and played college football before leaving to pursue a career in fashion. She was active in the Detroit ballroom scene.

See No Evil airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Investigation Discovery.
