Snapped: Killer Couples is examining the murder of Kelly Lovera, who was killed by his wife Alicia “Shayne” Lovera and her lover Brett Rae in Sevier County, Tennessee.
On November 6, 1994, US Park Rangers discovered the body of Kelly Lovera in his Jeep, which was lodged against a tree down an embankment about 100 feet away from Highway 441 inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
At first glance, it looked like a tragic road accident, but the investigators soon changed their minds.
Kelly was lying in a pool of blood on the floor in the back of the Jeep, and he had sustained injuries to his head and face that looked like he had been the victim of a beating. The positioning of the body meant Kelly could not have been driving.
The cops soon realized Kelly had been bludgeoned to death and then placed in this position to make it look like he had driven his Jeep off the road.
On the same day Kelly’s body was found, Rae confessed to two of his friends that he had killed Kelly. He bragged that he was in a relationship with Kelly’s wife, Shayne Lovera and that she had offered him love and money to kill her husband.
Rae also told his pals about a previous failed attempt to kill Kelly and about his various different schemes on how he planned to do it. The killer had considered shooting Kelly or tampering with his car brakes.

Eventually, Rae opted for bludgeoning his victim in his apartment before driving the body in the Jeep to the dumping point.
The police searched Rae’s home and found further physical evidence that he had been involved in the murder.
Rae was arrested a short time later, and his partner in crime, Lovera, was arrested a month later. They were both charged with first-degree murder.
Brett Rae and Shayne Lovera found guilty of Kelly Lovera murder
The murderous duo were put on trial together and were found guilty. Before their sentencing, they both agreed to plead guilty so as to avoid a life sentence without parole.
In February 2022, Lovera was released on parole but remains on probation and under supervision. Rae remains incarcerated, but a parole hearing has been tentatively scheduled for October 2025.
