American Monster is investigating the murder of India Mackey, who was shot dead by her boyfriend, Kevin Dixon, as they argued in her car parked outside Dixon’s home in Warren, Michigan.
India was murdered on November 18, 2019, just one day after her 20th birthday. She regularly filmed her day-to-day activities on her cellphone, and it was this habit that helped to convict Dixon of her murder.
The young woman filmed the then-18-year-old Dixon as he threatened her. The video showed the killer sitting in the car’s passenger seat with a firearm in his lap. He loaded the clip and told India, “You think I’m playing, huh? She replied, “OK.”
The footage showed Dixon wiping his fingerprints from the bullets as he said, “These big four-five hollow tips gonna eat you up.”
The cops say, moments later, Dixon shot India in the torso, and she died in the car.
Dixon pushed his girlfriend’s remains onto the passenger seat, jumped into the driver’s seat, and fled the scene.

The cops pulled over Dixon after he was spotted driving erratically in the neighboring town of Eastpointe. Both Warren and Eastpointe are northern suburbs of Detroit.

Dixon told contradicting stories about what happened; on one occasion, he said India had shot herself, but another time, he claimed to have accidentally killed her. He was charged with first-degree murder.
Dixon’s mother, Nikita Dixon, was later arrested on charges of accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence after it emerged her son had used India’s phone to ask her to help him dispose of the murder weapon.
Nikita Dixon eventually pleaded guilty to improper possession of a firearm. She avoided jail time but was required to pay $1,500 in court-appointed attorney fees and $825 in other costs.

The killer eventually pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and was ordered to serve 20 to 35 years in prison. He avoided a mandatory life sentence by pleading guilty.
Dixon’s earliest possible release date is scheduled for November 2039.
