Oxygen is re-airing the Killer Relationship With Faith Jenkins investigation into the murder of Everilda “Evie” Watson, who was killed by her husband, John Matthias Watson, during a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada.

In June 2006, Watson threw a surprise 50th birthday party for his wife, Evie. As part of the surprise, he also announced that he was arranging a trip to Las Vegas for them.

The following day, Watson drove alone to Las Vegas, as Evie was required to wait a day before flying there to join him. Watson checked into a hotel room under his own name, but he also checked into two other rooms at another hotel using a fake name.

The police believe that when Evie arrived, Watson shot her in the first hotel room and then dismembered her in one of the other rooms. The detectives also concluded that he buried the remains in remote areas of Nevada and California.

Immediately after killing Evie, Watson began telling family members that his wife was missing, but he did not contact the police. He stayed in Las Vegas for a few days, buying antifreeze, bleach, incense, and, disturbingly, a band saw and the tools to assemble it.

Back in California, Watson first claimed that he had had an argument with Evie at a casino, and she had stormed off. He then told family members that his wife had gone to see her sister in Guatemala because her sibling had had an accident.

Evidence against John Matthias Watson for Evie Watson murder mounted up

He produced a letter supposedly from Evie explaining why she had gone to the Central American country. However, the rest of the family concluded that Evie had not written that letter, and they verified that her sister had not been in an accident.

The cops searched Watson’s Jeep Cherokee and his home. In the car, they found a plastic tarp with bleach and other cleaners. They recovered paperwork from the three hotel rooms, and crucially, they found blood stains matching Evie’s DNA.

At Watson’s home, they recovered a gun that had Evie’s bloodstains on the barrel. The cleaning staff at one of the hotel rooms discovered a blood stain from Evie and also noticed that the bed sheets were missing.

Finally, the cops arrested Watson in Claremont, CA. At the time of arrest, he had a bus ticket to El Paso, Texas, a wig and a false mustache, traveler’s checks, and a driver’s license in a false name.

John Watson sentenced to death for killing Evie Watson

The police concluded that Watson killed Evie because he believed she was preparing to leave him and take half his life savings. He had told a friend in June 2006 that he was prepared to kill her rather than let that happen.

Watson was eventually convicted of first-degree kidnapping and murder. A jury sentenced him to death. He is currently on death row at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City, NV.

In letters from jail, Watson reportedly admitted to cooking and eating part of Evie’s remains. Her body was never found.

This episode of Killer Relationship With Faith Jenkins re-airs Saturday at 7/6c on Oxygen.
