See No Evil is investigating the murder of Dionay “Dion” Smith, who was shot dead at point-blank range by Terrell Gibson in his apartment in Baltimore City, Maryland.

On July 2, 2017, Gibson placed a shotgun on the right cheek of 24-year-old Dion and fired. The pellets entered Dion’s brain, killing him instantly.

The apartment building had a surveillance camera, and the killer was recorded after the murder, running down the hallway and stuffing a shotgun into his waistband.

The face of the gunman was not clearly visible, but Gibson was later identified through build, gait, and the clothing he had been wearing that day.

Dion’s neighbor, Dexter Richardson, noticed Dion’s apartment door was ajar, and on inspection, he spotted a pool of blood on the floor.

At this point, Gibson knocked on a window, and when Richardson let him into the building, he told him he thought Dion was dead.

Neighbors testified against Terrell Gibson in Dion Smith murder case

Richardson later testified that Gibson had initially appeared remorseful, but after chillingly asking, “Does anyone else know?” he seemed to change his demeanor. Gibson told Richardson to go back to his room, and the latter became scared that Gibson might kill him. He fled to his mother’s apartment.

A second neighbor, Willie Lee Ebron, told the cops he had seen Gibson at the apartment building on the day of the murder and that he was wearing the same clothes as the man recorded on the surveillance footage.

Gibson was subsequently charged and convicted. He was sentenced to life in prison, suspended for all but 65 years for murder, and 15 consecutive years for unlawful use of a firearm, which means he will serve 80 years.

Terrell Gibson still claims he didn’t kill Dion Smith

The killer has shown no remorse for the murder, and at his sentencing, he told Dion’s family that he hoped “one day, you will find the person guilty of this crime. Once again, I maintain my innocence.”

Dion’s brother, former Baltimore Police spokesman TJ Smith, told reporters, “My family wanted and was looking for an apology. Surprisingly, we got an excuse… We know he’s full of crap. He’s on video. We have brave witnesses who identified him. He’s in and out of the house all day. He has nothing more he can say at this point.”

Gibson is currently incarcerated at the North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland, MD.

See No Evil airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Investigation Discovery.
