American Monster is investigating the murder of Christie Holt by her jealous and abusive boyfriend, Marcus Garvin, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In July 2021, long-term boyfriend and girlfriend Garvin and Holt were living at the Always Inn motel in the east of the city. Garvin had been under GPS monitoring for about seven months following an incident where he allegedly stabbed a customer at the gas station where he worked.
The victim had reportedly irritated Garvin after they spent too long in the restroom. Garvin had allegedly followed the customer outside and stabbed them in the back. He came back in and told his colleagues that he found the stabbing “satisfying.”
In the meantime, Holt had begun to show concern over her partner’s violent tendencies. She told friends he had choked her on one occasion and that she was too afraid to leave him.
On July 30, 2021, a witness near the Always Inn motel called 911, stating they could see a suspicious-looking man dragging something heavy in a bed sheet. The man, later identified as Garvin, appeared to be struggling under the weight of the object as he dragged it toward a wooded area next to the motel. The man was nervously looking around.
The cops searched the wooded area, where they found the already decomposing remains of 30-year-old Holt. The body was wrapped in a bed sheet, and there appeared to have been an attempt to dismember the remains. She had been stabbed 51 times in the head, neck, torso, and thighs.
Evidence against Marcus Garvin for Christie Holt murder was robust
Detectives watched footage from the motel’s surveillance cameras, and they spotted Garvin dragging the bedsheet with something heavy inside; at one point, a human arm fell out of the sheet, which the killer quickly tucked back inside.
Watch the Latest on our YouTube ChannelThe cops searched the couple’s motel room, where they noticed a strong smell of human decomposition. The investigators concluded Garvin had killed Holt about six days before he dragged the body to the woods.
Garvin eventually admitted his guilt. He said he had gone through the messages on Holt’s cellphone while she was sleeping and found she had been texting another man. Garvin alleged that Holt had mocked him in a message to the other man.

The killer said he woke up Holt and began stabbing her in the neck. He claimed he still loved her but also said “she deserved it” and that he had no other option but to kill her.
Garvin pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 45 years.
