Final Moments is examining the murder of teenager Brittanee Drexel, who was vacationing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, when she was kidnapped, raped, and strangled to death by Raymond Moody.
Brittanee’s mom had forbidden her to go to Myrtle Beach for spring break, but the 17-year-old went anyway, and her parents’s worst fears came to pass when she vanished.
The teenager was last seen on April 25, 2009, as she walked down Ocean Boulevard to see friends who were staying at a different hotel.
It would then take an agonizing 16 years before Brittanee’s family finally learned what happened to her.
The cops discovered that Raymond Moody and his girlfriend, Angel Vause lifted Brittanee from the street and took her to a campsite in Georgetown County, 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach, where she was raped and strangled.
In 2022, the cops utilized new technology to pinpoint the time Brittanee had disappeared off the street. They were then able to use surveillance footage to identify a suspicious car belonging to Moody.
Raymond Moody admitted to killing Brittanee Drexel
The investigators zeroed in on Moody’s girlfriend, Vause, persuading her to wear a wire, which led to a search of Moody’s home. During the investigation, the detectives finally got a confession out of Moody.
Watch the Latest on our YouTube ChannelMoody claimed that Brittanee had voluntarily gone to the campsite with him and Vause. He said the three of them smoked marijuana and that he hoped to have consensual sex with Brittanee.
At some point, Vause left the campsite, and Moody forced himself on Brittanee. He admitted to strangling her after sex because he didn’t want to go to jail for rape. He then hid the body, and when Vause returned, he told her Brittanee had been picked up by friends.
Moody returned to the crime scene later that night and buried Brittanee at another location.
After his confession, he directed the police to where he buried her. The cops found human remains, and testing confirmed it was Brittanee.
The police suspect that Moody is lying about Brittanee willingly going with him and Vause.
In October 2022, Raymond Moody was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He also received two consecutive 30-year sentences for rape and kidnapping.
Raymond Moody agreed he is a ‘monster’ at sentencing for Brittanee Drexel murder
Britannee’s adopted father, Chad Drexel, called the killer “a perverted sick monster.” Moody agreed, telling the sentencing hearing, “I was a monster.”
The killer added, “I don’t have the words to express how horrible I feel, and I have felt ever since that day. I’m very sorry.”
Moody had already served 20 years for the 1983 abduction and rape of a 9-year-old California girl.
