Signs of a Psychopath is re-investigating the murder of Alice and Antonio Balcer by their transgender daughter Andrea Balcer, who stabbed her parents and killed the family dog at their home in Winthrop, Maine.
Balcer was born Andrew Balcer, but she changed her name to Andrea as she went through the transgender process. She claimed to have killed her parents because they were not supportive of her during the transgender change. The rest of the family strongly disputes this accusation.
On October 31, 2016, 17-year-old Balcer awoke her mother, Alice, telling her she was having trouble sleeping. When Alice tried to comfort her, Balcer stabbed her nine times in the back.
Balcer then killed her father, Antonio, before turning the knife on their pet Chihuahua, Lily. She later said she killed the dog because it was barking.
She spared her older brother, Christopher Balcer, telling him, “It’s not your day,” before allowing him to escape.
The twisted killer then dialed 911 to report the murders. Allegedly, the operator was initially unsure if Balcer was making a Halloween prank.

In 2018, Balcer pleaded guilty to two counts of intentional or knowing murder and one count of aggravated cruelty to animals. She was sentenced to 40 years in jail.
Andrea Balcer asked for forgiveness after killing Alice and Antonio Balcer
After sentencing, Balcer addressed her family, saying, “I made a terrible mistake, one that cost the lives of the two people that gave me life and raised me. I am only here to ask for one thing: That is the forgiveness of my family.”
Christopher Balcer made clear he has not forgiven the killer, calling her an “inhuman creature.”
During the trial, Balcer was classed as an adult male and was subsequently incarcerated in a male prison. In 2023, Balcer was officially diagnosed with gender dysphoria and was allowed to transfer to a female prison.
