Snapped: Killer Couples is investigating the murder of Alex Jackson, who was gunned down in Morgan County, Indiana, by Justin Blake and Britney Overton following a crime spree by the trio in Indianapolis.
On September 13, 2019, the decomposing remains of 23-year-old Jackson were discovered with a bullet in his head lying by the side of the road in a secluded wooded area.
Over the course of the following year, the police would learn that Blake, Overton, Jackson, and a fourth individual, known only as KJ, had spent the evening of September 8 shoplifting and robbing people.
The gang was driving around in a vehicle rented by Jackson but driven by Overton, and at some point, Blake became paranoid that Jackson may “snitch” on them, which led to his murder.
A lot of the case centered around Overton’s testimony against Blake. Overton claimed that it had been Jackson’s idea to target an individual to rob by contacting them on the gay dating app Grindr.
The trio then enlisted the help of KJ to provide a firearm. Overton explained that Blake pistol-whipped their victim before robbing their apartment.
Justin Blake ordered Alex Jackson out of the car before shooting him
However, after the successful robbery, Blake told Overton to drive them to a secluded area in northern Morgan County. When they arrived, Blake and KJ ordered Jackson out of the car and told him, “Alex, you know what time it is.”
Watch the Latest on our YouTube ChannelOverton said she heard Jackson scream, followed by the sound of five gunshots. Blake and KJ then got back in the vehicle and they drove off.
Blake kept Jackson’s rental car but crashed it a few days later while fleeing from the police. However, it took over a year to bring charges of murder against him.
The police were aided by Blake’s grandmother, who told investigators the killer had confessed to her and shown her an article about Jackson’s death.
In 2022, Blake was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to 58 years. He received an additional three years for robbery.
Prosecutors dropped murder charge against Britney Overton
Overton was initially charged with murder, but prosecutors agreed to drop those charges in exchange for her testimony. She did plead guilty to robbery resulting in serious bodily injury and was sentenced to 17.5 years.
There was some suspicion that Overton may have been more involved than she admitted. Court documents revealed she attempted to get a gun a few days before the murder. She had also unfriended Jackson on Facebook just minutes after he was killed.
Jackson’s father, David Good, told the press, “Britney was a really, really close friend to Alex. How do you do that to somebody that you were friends with? And I don’t understand how you leave him out there for the animals. He had no flesh left on him.”
