The authorities in Euclid, Ohio, have announced the death of a suspect in the murder of Euclid Police Officer Jacob Derbin, who was shot dead in the city on Saturday night.
The Euclid cops instigated a manhunt this weekend for Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, who was suspected of killing 23-year-old Derbin during an ambush at a house in Euclid.
The US Marshals announced late last night that Vaughn was found dead inside a residence in Shaker Heights, Ohio, following an hours-long standoff.
On Saturday evening, a woman called the police, claiming she was being threatened by the father of her child. The mother told the cops she thought the suspect had fled the area.
Officers, including Derbin, entered the property through the backyard and were hit by gunfire in an ambush. Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer explained in a news conference, “Officers went to check the backyard and were ambushed by gunfire from the suspect.”
Derbin was the only officer to be struck, and he passed away a short time later in a hospital. Derbin was just nine months on the force and was engaged to be married in the summer.
The officer was a veteran of the Army National Guard and completed a tour in the Middle East before returning home to join the police. His father also works in the Euclid Police Department.

Vaughn is alleged to have fled the scene on foot and ended up at an apartment in Shaker Heights, roughly ten miles from where Derbin was shot.
Witnesses claimed to have heard loud shots and explosions coming from an apartment before the police found the body of 24-year-old Vaughn. The US Marshalls announced the suspect’s death, and they have not yet revealed how he died.
US Marshals spokesperson Peter J. Elliott told reporters that Vaughn was heavily armed but declined to say how the suspect died. Elliott simply announced, “The manhunt is now over.”
